To Meme, or Not to Meme?

So there's this "100 best science fiction/fantasy novels" meme going around, but mostly I'm not super thrilled with NPR's list, especially everything that's not on that list. So I thought I'd make my own list of my personal favorites (with attempts not to duplicate authors without good reason). Some of these are fairly predictable, but these are all books I'll happily recommend - some of these I'll even proselytize for, because there are a bunch here I consider severely underappreciated (or at least unjustly unkown). All of these books mean something to me and are the source of many happy memories from childhood and beyond. ** means unknown or underrated titles that other scifi/fantasy lovers might have missed, but that I think really deserve a closer look (and a nice long read! )( Cut ) In no particular order, (currently under construction, please excuse the mess)
