So here's a meme that's going around, and I thought "maybe I'll try it out" .  But look at some of the questions - these are things your local cat-burglar or stalker would want to know, scattered in amongst stuff about candles and decor.  Or am I just being paranoid?

Stuff about me you don't really care about ^_^ )

It's been a while since I've bought a book (in hardcover, no less!) that wasn't for work or an ebook.   But Dragon Ship (!!!!!!!!!) came out last week and I haven't been able to pry myself away from the Liaden Universe until now, since every new release always seems to necessitate a re-read of all (well, a significant portion anyway) of the previous novels.  *dreamy sigh*

I have loved this series since I found the first one in a B. Dalton back in 1989, all through the years where I searched fruitlessly for more sequels - not realizing that the authors were self-publishing and epub pioneers, as I didn't have internet access at the time - and I will buy every dang last one in hardcover or however it's published, just to show my support and keep the series coming!

*hollow voice*   I will never forget the famine years...

Stephen Brust : you're up, dude.  I bought Desecrator, but that was just an amuse-bouche.  Seriously, what's Vlad up to now?

BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN READING  ALL THE THINGS !!!!!!! **

But someone recced me this in a comment elsewhere, and I kind of think it is a work of slightly tacky GENIUS!

~I don't know why it won't embed properly
ETA: must use old embed code  (curse you, newfangled Flash embeds  *shakes fist*

Now I want a gif of Eddie Izzard saying "Yus!" or  "And this is all true..."  here.  Can angels make that happen?

**  SPN J2 Big Bang is ongoing right now  -  which means I'm trying to keep up with all the BBs,  monitor the BBs posting to AO3 and invite the authors/artists to post to the Supernatural and J2 Big Bang Collection over there,  keep an eye out for BB authors who need/want AO3 invites,  track all of my lovely AO3 Subscriptions,  and try to stay on top of all the new Avenger-fic!  Plus, people keep reccing awesome Inception fics  -  nooooo, I don't need a new fandom!  I'm barely keeping my head above water as it is!  I still haven't managed to make it through the kinkmeme - or the last several comment memes  ([livejournal.com profile] be_compromised : stop being so amazing for just a few days so the rest of us can catch up!)

AND I really would like to post some Avenger recs and lovely scifi BigBang recs, but ....   then I would have to spend less time reading fic.  O.O

Like that's gonna happen.

I want to find out if anyone from AO3 is doing a membership drive/info thingy at Wincon or if I should volunteer.   Guess I should get right on that, huh?  (Really, I just want a T-shirt - even if I have to make my own.)

This month so far has not been a good one for me and LJ.
A tale of joy and woe ... or more like, woe and joy.. )

Kosmonaunt on Tumblr just posted this link to the U.S. Petition to stop ACTA. Here is what was said about it:

Americans, this is a link to the White House petition to End ACTA and get the Obama Administration to withdraw its support! This petition needs 25,000 signatures by February 20, 2012! Please, Please take a minute to sign this petition!! I'm sure the more signatures we get, the greater chance the Obama Administration may listen to us.

Please pass this along!!

In slightly less depressing, but possibly more (personally) terrifying news, I have registered for Wincon! I figure this is maybe the last chance I'll have to attend a con during a year when Supernatural is still airing new episodes. After all, there's no guarantee of an 8th season - yet.

I have never attended a con before and never expected to attend one ever - I could never afford to get to most of them - Chicago? L.A.? Nope, don't have that kind of cash. But Dallas? Only a few hours away? I kind of feel like I have to go, if only to keep from being disappointed in my fan-self!

Nerve-wrackingly, I know absolutely no-one in fandom on a personal basis. Everyone seems really nice and friendly in their posts, though, and the podcast for the con indicated that they're used to dealing with "newbs", so I feel like at there might at least be a certain tolerance for an awkward new fangirl (wouldn't that make for a great sitcom? Cross New Girl and Big Bang Theory and get Zooey Deschanel in SGA drag hanging with Leonard and the guys, plus Kristen Bell and the cast of Fanboys attending cons around the world: there would be comic relief in the form of a misunderstood/emo Dalek that always tries different cosplay at each event, not understanding why everyone looks embarassed when it starts chatting in Klingon or throwing out Red Dwarf trivia while kitted out as a steampunk Sailor Moon) ....Hopefully, there will also be tolerance of nervous rambling (crossed fingers).

If nothing else, I can at least stop in and visit my sister, so there's that.   *nervous smile*

or actually my RL job, I saw a car with the Ohio vanity plate BK-READR!

What an awesome idea! Normally I find vanity plates to be kind of douchey, but this one just made my day. This squee makes more sense if I point out that I work in a bookstore.

Not that I really thought I was alone alone (I am in the SPN fandom after all) but still - this makes me feel better about all the hours of my life spent daydreaming ...

Has anyone else noticed a sudden uptick in the misuse of the word 'loose' for the word 'lose' ?  And 'loosing' for 'losing' ?
In all kinds of fics, not just by one author.  I mean, they don't even sound the same.
Maybe it's just the 'o' key gets stuck?   Repeatedly?
It's weirding me out because I've never seen it to this extent before (believe me, *nitpick-woman* would have noticed)

It's like some kind of meme-virus that spreads or something.  Quick - what's the equivalent of a condom for a word processing application?  I don't want to get infected!  *I weep for I have no Matt Damon to fret over my future affliction*

On that note: why doesn't the CW do some disaster-of-the-week movies?  They're cheap and fast to make (supposedly).  They've got the hottie casts under contract.  Supernatural alone has the effects expertise necessary.  And cheap, cheesy movies are every network's inalienable right or something.  Syfy can't hog all the glory!  Tom Welling should land a crashing plane!  Katie Cassidy should lead a ragtag group of survivors to safety!

(Secretly, I just want Jensen to get cast against type and pull a total Rodney McKay while wearing wire-rims and maybe a labcoat at some point - possibly he could rail at some incompetent government-stooge types.   No, I haven't overthought this at all.)

Is there a disaster-fic bang anywhere? Like reworkings of The Towering Inferno or Volcano, etc.?  If not, why not?

So there's this "100 best science fiction/fantasy novels" meme going around, but mostly I'm not super thrilled with NPR's list, especially everything that's not on that list.   So I thought I'd make my own list of my personal favorites (with attempts not to duplicate authors without good reason).  Some of these are fairly predictable, but these are all books I'll happily recommend - some of these I'll even proselytize for, because there are a bunch here I consider severely underappreciated (or at least unjustly unkown).  All of these books mean something to me and are the source of many happy memories from childhood and beyond. **  means unknown or underrated titles that other scifi/fantasy lovers might have missed, but that I think really deserve a closer look (and a nice long read! )( Cut ) )
